Sorry I haven’t been around here much! I guess I just haven’t had much to blog about. It’s been all diet rabbit-y food around here. But on the bright side, I’m actually losing weight *cheer*. I’m almost to my second weight goal (2 lbs away!), and then one more goal after that. I’m happy to say that all of my Charlie-pregnancy weight is gone, and almost all of my Emma-pregnancy weight is gone! But for now I’m living off yogurt, oatmeal, chicken, veggies, and fruit. It’s not very fun, and I really miss baking, but I can’t wait to finally get back into shape! Once I hit my final weight loss goal, I promise I’ll start doing more baking (and hopefully not gain it all back? haha). I really hope I don’t miss all the great fall baking, but I know I’ll be back for Christmas! So hang in there, check back in every few weeks, and see if I’ve got anything new. Who knows, maybe an occasion will come up where I need to find a fabulous new recipe to try out? I hope to be back soon!

I also wanted to blog about an awesome new product I discovered! Did you know that Coffeemate came out with sugar free creamers? I had no idea! I’ve been looking around at different options, trying to water down my coffee with fat free creamer and then add in flavors, but none of it tasted very good. And the fat free creamers aren’t really that low in calories, usually about 25-30 calories per tablespoon (and I usually use about 3!) But I just discovered the vanilla caramel sugar-free creamer, and it only has 15 calories! Which basically means I can have my 3 tablespoons of creamer in my coffee and only use up 45 of my day’s calories! And when you’re calorie counting, that’s awesome! I hate wasting some of my precious calories on something that has no substance at all, and I really can’t do without my coffee!

Oh, and another thing, I love breastfeeding! Because I’m nursing Charlie (he 7 months and still 99% BF) I’m burning an extra 500 calories. If I wanted to lose weight this rapidly and I wasn’t breastfeeding, I would have to eat about 1200-1300 calories a day, which is barely anything! But because of this awesome milk making super power I’ve got, I can eat 1700-1800 a day and feel full, but still lose about 2 lbs. a week.

Do you have a Pinterest account? You should! Pinterest is a “digital pin board”. Confused? It’s not hard at all! Basically, instead of saving a website to your favorites or bookmarks, you “pin” it on Pinterest. See an awesome recipe? Pin it! Or maybe a great DIY project? PIN IT! You can make different “boards” (categories), such as DIY, food, style, decorating ideas, party ideas, ect. Example: if you’re throwing a baby shower, and are looking for ideas, you can pin all of the ideas you see to your “baby shower” pin board. When you pin something, it posts the picture to your board, and when you click on the picture, it will take you to the website you got it from!

The main things I pin are food items, so instead of just having a “food” category, I now have “cake”, “cooking”, “drinks”, “sweets”, and “frozen treats”.  Here’s a screen shot of my different boards that I have.

This is a screen shot of my “cake” category. If I’m in the mood to bake a cake, or need a decorating idea for a cake I’m making, I can just browse through all of the cakes I’ve ever pinned.

When you log into your account and go to the main page, it will show you all of the things your friends have pinned. And when you register, you can link your Facebook account, and it will automatically show you which of your friends are on Pinterest!

You can either browse through things that other people have pinned (which is a GREAT way to get ideas!), or pin original items you see online. Pinterest will show you how to add a “Pin it” button to your toolbar in internet Explorer or Firefox.

Which leads me to my next point. I just now added a “pin it” button under the main picture on each of my posts! So if you’re checking out my blog, and like one of my recipes, you can “pin it” to your pin board! I love how easy Pinterest makes it!

A proper introduction

I feel like I never really introduced myself on here. I just kind of jumped in and started posting! My name is Katy, and I’m 23 years old. My first blog was the Crafty Mama. After the birth of my second child, I started to have less time for crafting, and was posting all about cooking and baking. Before I realized it, it was ALL I was posting about. It’s so much easier to work food into my schedule than crafting. Not to mention working it into the budget! So I decided to start up this blog to feed my baking addiction. I still plan to post on Crafty Mama, but I think this is going to be my main blog from now on.

As you can probably tell from my photos, I am NOT a photographer. I do have a Canon Rebel, and I’m working on figuring it out. Photographing my food creations is just one way to do it. I’m really hoping to expand my photography knowledge with this blog. Photography definitely is not high on my list of hobbies, but it’s working it’s way up there.

I have two kids. Emma just turned 2, and Charlie is now 6 months. My amazing husband, Ben, works hard so I can stay at home with my kiddos, and pursue my hobbies. I am so grateful for this, it seems as though time is flying ridiculously fast! I have no idea how I would juggle everything if I worked on top of it all. I see myself as not just a mom, but a cook, maid, laundromat, 24 hour milk bar, photographer, secretary, accountant, and so much more. I live for my kids and my husband, and I couldn’t dream of having a better life. I live on coffee (so expect to see a lot of it n here!), and I have no idea how I manage to function on the amount of sleep I get (excuse my sleep deprived grammar and spelling). And while I live for my kids, I also live for the night when I have a few kid-free hours (with frequent interruptions from Charlie, enter 24-hour milk bar) to blog and surf food and craft sites. I hope there’s not too many mishaps in my recipes, sometimes I have a hard time forming 2 thoughts at midnight when I’m typing up my blog posts.

I’m still new to this whole cooking and baking thing. I went to school for Baking and Pastry, and learned quite a bit there. But as for cooking, I’m still warming up to it. For the first year or so of my married life, I mostly made hamburger helper (and other simple things). I was raised in a home where everything was home made. Every. Thing. So getting out of the house and getting married, I loved the ease of and tastiness of boxed foods (call me crazy!) It took a good year before I started to realize that this was NOT the way to do things! I’ve been slowly adding new recipes to my collection, learning as I go (with numerous mishaps and disasters!) I feel like it’s my goal to make everything at least once. Hopefully this will keep me from ever getting in a rut! I’m probably not going to have a ton of unique sophisticated recipes on here, but I do enjoy adding a twist on original recipes.

Please excuse the lack of pictures of me. I’m still in that post-baby funk, and prefer to stay away from the camera. I do love posting pictures of my little ones though, so you’ll be sure to see lots of them!

Thank you for following me over to my new blog! I added a few of my favorite recipes from my previous blog Crafty Mama. Please be patient with me while I get accustomed to the new site. I’m now using Word Press instead of Blogger, so things are set up quite differently! I’m hoping to get some tasty new posts up soon, so check back in soon!

Hi, thank you for visiting my blog! I’m Katy, wife to Ben, and mama to Emma (2) and Charlie (5 months). I’m a 23 year old stay at home mom who loves baking, sewing, and crafting. I previously started up a crafting blog, the Crafty Mama, but decided to focus more on my baking and cooking. Thus became Never Trust a Skinny Baker. I went to school for Baking and Pastry, and I’ve learned so much since then! Baking is my passion! I have so many exciting things planned for this blog, I can’t wait to get started!
